For the past several months, many of you have followed along as we searched for a new home for Rockin’ Sheep Farm. After moving off our Maine property, we looked at land across Maine and northern New York, worked with lenders, gathered contractor quotes, and tried every path we could find to keep the flock and the farm together in a new location.
It’s time to share where that search has landed us: we’ve made the difficult decision to close the farming side of Rockin’ Sheep Farm.
Why We’re Making This Change
Relocating a working sheep farm isn’t simple. Between the cost of land and construction in the timelines sellers needed, the realities of financing a move at this stage of life, and the sheer number of moving pieces that have to line up all at once, we ultimately couldn’t find a property that worked. After exploring every option available to us, continuing to chase a new farm no longer made sense.
What’s Happening to the Flock
This year’s lambs have already sold. We’re now offering our ram, Chris, and 9 registered Columbia ewes for sale — the ewes are bred and expected to lamb in January, so this is a great opportunity for someone looking to start or grow their own flock with proven, registered stock.
We’re keeping three sheep — Bishop, Anya, and Layla — with us for fleece and for the joy of their company. Farm equipment is also being sold off as part of this transition — if you’ve ever eyed something at the farm and wondered if it was for sale, now’s the time to ask.
What’s Not Going Anywhere
This is a pivot, not a goodbye. Rockin’ Sheep Products is continuing as an online and craft-show business. You’ll still find:
- Raw fleece, naturally dyed yarn, and roving
- Hand-forged ironwork — towel racks, trivets, bottle openers, and more, forged by our blacksmith
- Flint and reenactor goods
- Handmade goods like our dish soap bars and broomcorn pot scrubbers and whisks
We’ll keep selling through our Etsy shop and hope to see you at craft shows and fairs. Without the daily demands of the flock, we’re actually looking forward to being able to focus more energy on these product lines and grow them in ways we never had time for while running the full farm operation.
